The questions we are asked most
If your question is about a booking you have already made, call us rather than working from this page.
21 for a car or a commercial vehicle, with a licence held for at least 12 months. A 6–9 seat MPV needs a driver aged 25 with a UK licence held for 24 months, and our premium EV groups need a driver aged 30 on the same licence terms.
A full valid licence in every case. UK licence holders also need a DVLA check code. Non-UK hirers need a passport, and a non-EU licence not written in English needs an International Driving Permit. Minibus and MPV hires are UK-licence only.
The standard deposit is £100. It is taken at booking if your hire starts within 5 days, and shortly before collection otherwise. Some cases take the full excess instead: older drivers, and payment by a non-UK, prepaid, gift or temporary virtual card.
£1,750 on a standard vehicle and £2,750 on a premium one. Optional protection packages cap what you would pay on a covered claim, starting at £14.40 per day including VAT. None of them removes your liability, and a £30 damage administration fee applies to every damage incident regardless.
Full-to-full. You collect with a full tank and return with a full tank. If we have to refuel, you pay for the fuel at that day's price plus a £30 refuelling administration surcharge including VAT.
Every hire includes 150 miles per rental day, pooled across the hire rather than capped daily. Beyond that, additional mileage is £0.42 per mile including VAT.
Yes, there is no Car Hire Hebrides restriction on either. Booking the crossing and allowing time for check-in is yours to arrange, and ferry tickets and availability are not part of the hire.
Outside 48 hours of collection, most changes are free. A refund requires that you cancel at least 48 hours before collection and that you chose the free-cancellation option when booking. That option fee itself is not refunded. Nothing can be cancelled or changed inside 48 hours.
There is a 60-minute grace period, after which £75 applies for every additional 30 minutes. If a ferry or flight has moved, call us before the grace period runs out. We would far rather adjust the booking than charge you.
Get somewhere safe, then call RAC on 03333 661 088. That line is answered around the clock. Let us know as well once you are safe, so we can sort out the rest of your booking.
