There is no Car Hire Hebrides restriction on taking a vehicle on a ferry. There is no Car Hire Hebrides restriction on taking a vehicle off-island. Island travel is what these vehicles are hired for, and moving between islands is a normal part of a hire rather than an exception to it.
Where our responsibility ends
This is the part worth reading twice, because it is the part people assume.
- Ferry tickets, ferry availability and the operator's own conditions are not part of your hire. Booking the crossing, and allowing time for check-in, is yours to arrange.
- Book vehicle space on the crossing yourself, and book it early in summer: foot-passenger space and vehicle space sell out at different rates.
- Allow time for check-in. Check-in closes before departure, not at it.
- If a sailing is cancelled and it changes when you can return the vehicle, tell us as early as you can rather than at the counter.
Ferry routes still count towards your mileage
Every hire includes 150 miles per rental day, and the miles you drive between islands count in the same way as any others. Additional mileage is £0.42 per mile including VAT.
For a route down the chain that is worth a moment's arithmetic before you book, particularly on a short hire where the daily allowance has less to pool.
Sometimes a one-way hire is the better answer
If you are travelling down the island chain and not coming back, returning the vehicle at a different location removes the whole return leg, and the ferry crossings that go with it.
One-way hire is available between our locations subject to availability and pre-arrangement, and any applicable charge is confirmed before booking. Never leave a vehicle at an unagreed location.
