Roadside assistance for Car Hire Hebrides vehicles is provided by RAC. Call this number if the vehicle will not start, will not drive, or is unsafe to continue in. It is answered around the clock. Our own office is not.
What to do first
In that order, and the first two matter more than the third.
- Get yourself and your passengers somewhere safe, off the carriageway where you can. Single-track roads have passing places rather than hard shoulders, so this can take a moment's thought.
- Call RAC on 03333 661 088. Have the registration and your location: a road number, a landmark or a what3words reference is more use than a postcode out here.
- Let us know as well, once you are safe. We can start sorting out the rest of your booking while recovery is on its way.
Breakdown or booking: two different calls
03333 661 088 is for a vehicle that has stopped. It reaches RAC, not our office, and it is the right number at three in the morning.
01851 706500 is our booking line. Use it for anything about the hire itself: a changed collection, a late return, a question about your confirmation.
If you are not sure which you need, call the breakdown number first when the vehicle is involved. Getting someone to you is the part with a clock on it.
What to expect on the islands
Recovery on the islands can take longer than on the mainland, and mobile coverage is not continuous. That is not a caveat to explain away a delay: it is a reason to carry a charged phone, warm layers and water on a long drive, particularly in winter.
If your plans are affected, tell us as early as you can. We will do our best to adjust the handover, though revised arrangements stay subject to vehicle and staff availability.
